Name the failure precisely

“Telegram is not working” is too broad to diagnose. Does the app fail to launch, stay on Connecting, fail to send messages, refuse to load video, or remain silent about new messages? Write down one observable symptom and when it started. If possible, record the error without personal conversations. This makes the next test meaningful.

Begin with reversible actions. Signing out, deleting the app, and clearing all app data are poor first tests. They can add an access problem to the original fault, especially if the number or password is already unavailable.

Record any change immediately preceding the problem, such as an app update, network change, or added proxy. Timing alone does not establish causation, but provides a testable hypothesis for the next careful step.

Separate device, network and service checks: a single broken feature does not mean the account is lost.

Separate internet access from Telegram

Open a familiar website in a browser. If it fails too, investigate general connectivity first: Wi-Fi, mobile service, account balance, or a public network’s sign-in page. A Wi-Fi icon confirms a connection to an access point, not working internet. Never enter a Telegram password into a hotel network form.

Compare Wi-Fi with mobile data if that will not cause unwanted charges. Change only the network and repeat the same Telegram action. A different result is useful evidence that the problem concerns a particular connection route rather than necessarily the account.

Check existing proxy and VPN settings

If you previously configured a Telegram proxy or VPN, record its state and compare access with and without it where safe and permitted on your network. An unavailable old proxy can itself prevent connection. Avoid adding several new tools together; you would not know which change affected the result.

Follow organizational rules on a work network. Ask the administrator about restrictions rather than installing an unknown “Telegram booster.” A finding that the app works through one permitted route but fails through another is already useful evidence for support.

Separate messaging, media, and notifications

Send a short neutral note to Saved Messages and try opening a small previously available file. If text works but a large video does not, this is not a complete service outage. Check available storage, automatic-download settings, and the connection. Do not download a large diagnostic file through expensive roaming.

If messages appear only when the app opens, investigate notifications and background behavior. If sending to certain people is restricted, read any account-restriction notice. A proxy or cache cleanup is not a universal fix for restrictions or muted alerts.

Worked example: works outside, fails at home

Suppose Telegram keeps connecting on home Wi-Fi but sends text through mobile data. Preserve that observation and check for an old enabled proxy. If disabling it restores access, you have narrowed the cause. Otherwise compare other devices on the same home network and general website access.

There is no reason at this stage to delete the account or change the number. The evidence points toward the network or its settings. A provider or administrator can act on a concrete report listing affected devices, the failing operation, and the route on which it succeeds.

If only one app is affected

Restart the app and, if necessary, the device. Check for an official update and available storage. If Telegram works on another already authorized device on the same network, use it temporarily without signing out. Avoid random old builds from someone else’s archive: that changes not only the version but also the trustworthiness of the software.

Clearing Telegram’s internal cache can help with storage pressure, but it is different from clearing Android app data. Before any more destructive step, check your number, password, and important local files, including the special status of Secret Chats.

When to stop experimenting

If the same problem appears on several devices and independent networks, a wider disruption is possible. That is a working hypothesis, not proof of a global outage. Do not announce a service-wide failure based only on your screen. For urgent communication, use another channel your contacts already know.

Send support a concise log: device and version, symptom, start time, network comparison, and another-device result. Repeating failed resets without new evidence is unhelpful. Sometimes successful diagnosis means preserving access and establishing who can address the remaining problem.
